The world is full of great organizations. There are organizations that move us forward as a society and that provide a better standard of living. Some of these organizations focus on money over mission, or money is their mission [the for-profits], whereas other organizations focus on their mission over money [the not-for-profits (NFPs)]. Based on my experiences in living through The Great Recession in the United States, it became apparent to me after much cogitation that a third group is needed. This group could be called the Public Benefit Organizations (PBOs).
As the world becomes more complex, different structures evolve to solve problems. The time could be right for the deployment of Geographic Imaginal Cells (GICs or Cells). There are many problems that occur with the current manifestations of the nation-state. While no system is perfect, GICs could aid in solving many of the problems from the nation-state. One of these problems is the disparity in economic purchasing power, as reflected in terms of the differing values of currencies. In order to truly equalize each person on the planet, there must be one global currency. Each person must be able to enjoy an equivalent access to a common currency.
What is a Geographic Imaginal Cell (GIC)?
A Geographic Imaginal Cell is a group of people of a certain size that form a community. This GIC, or Cell, is linked to other Cells similar to the manner in which cells of the body work together. These Cells are part of a new fabric of human organization, Cells within the greater global human organism, as we transition towards and then through the end of the nation-state model of governance.
From the height of the Earth where you find the curve of starlight, you can’t see much of the manner in which we humans have organized ourselves. You can sometimes see evidence of our activity on the surface of the earth such as large cities, and at night we light up the planet with the lights that we have installed. At this height it is relatively peaceful.
